purgatorio by J. D. Nelson

A liminal space like a psychiatric hospital might be the perfect place to encounter the purgative fire which is essential in refining the dross from one’s gold. In such a setting, the author, clad in a johnny gown and grippy socks, was inspired to entitle this collection purgatorio when he was given a paperback copy of Dante’s poem of the same name by another patient. Only non-lethal writing implements were used in the composition of these ten very-short-form, surrealistic language experiments and found poems.
